Liam’s Room

I’m in the process of putting up pictures of our new house but am going to start by showing you Liam’s nursery that we just now finished.  I blame not finding out the sex of the baby.  Oh wait, we did find out the sex, just didn’t tell anyone.  Yes, I know, how cruel of us.  However finding out clearly didn’t give us a head start on nursery planning.  I picked the color of the nursery long ago and was going to decorate it once the baby came specific to the gender.  I was thinking of accenting with purples and yellows if it was a girl.  So here is the first room we touched in the new house and so called “finished” although I still have ideas running through my head on future things to add (such as trim around the window and maybe some crown molding).

Liam has been such a blessing and as his mother, I naturally have the urge to give him everything.  I can’t help it.  I habitually give him kisses, hugs, and his favorite, boobs. With that being said, I want him to have a room that is his.  He completes me so what better way than completing this room for him.  The color of the room is Sherwin Williams Emerald Sleepy Blue.

I made the curtains.  I loved these Pottery Barn curtains but at the time they were more than I wanted to pay for them (of course now that I’m writing this post I see that PB has them marked down).  So I ordered some navy gingham fabric from fabric.com.  Because the fabric was thin and let all light through, I then picked up some blackout fabric from JoAnn’s and used these instructions to make the curtains.  It was so simple and took no time at all.  This was the first time I have ever sewn curtains the official way (versus hem tape) and I am so pleased at how they turned out.  Next project is curtains for the rest of the house.

The dresser is the Hemnes dresser from Ikea.  Andy’s mom actually purchased this for us as a baby/Christmas gift and we love it.  Originally I thought it would be too high to change Liam for us small folks but it actually is quite nice to be that high versus lower.  The alphabet art is a poster I bought from Zazzle you can find here, the clock is from Target and the squirrel mirror was a baby gift from my cousin, which she made (whose inspiration came from Land of Nod).

I’m still on the hunt for a fun pillow for the chair and I’m still playing around with the idea of purchasing a cardboard safari animal for the wall above the chair, or if I can find a cheaper ceramic animal head.  Don’t know why but I feel like incorporating an animal head into this space.  It’s not like there are enough animals in the room already like the alphabet art and squirrel mirror.

For above the crib, I went with the simple project of getting an engineer print from Staples of a picture I took of Liam and attaching it to a thick poster board.  You can search Pinterest to get instructions on how to do this.  It’s so easy and makes for great wall art.

But my favorite part of the room is this basket by the chair.  It holds some of Liam’s stuffed animals and baby books.  I think I love this so much because of how many hours I have logged in that chair feeding Liam and just rocking him to sleep and reading to him.

So there is Liam’s room.  Finishing this room gave me a lot of motivation to start on the rest of the house.  I have big plans!
