i really want a sheepskin rug

….but even the one’s at Ikea can be expensive.  So I’m winging it. I bought a yard of this fur (I have been looking and looking for faux fur but this is all I could find at the local JoAnn’s).  It was $10 a yard and you can make two sheepskins in one yard of fabric, so if I do the math correctly, that’s 1/6th the price of the rug at Ikea.

Ok so let’s start with the rug from Ikea:
RENS Sheepskin, white
Oh I love it. Ok so then here is the fabric I used:

I started by pulling up the picture of the sheepskin rug at Ikea so that I could “sketch” it out onto my fabric.

I drew the pattern on the back side of the fabric with a pencil and began cutting.  I only cut one side of the fabric, folded it over and cut the other side, you know, to make it symmetrical.

And the final product.  It’s more like rabbit skin instead of sheep skin but I will find a use for it one way or another.

There is something about fur and Christmas that make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.  So for now, I draped my rabbit skin rug over a wicker chair in our living room.
Add a red pillow (this is actually a red sweater that I found at Goodwill and plan on making into a pillow for the holidays, now it is just a rolled up sweater…more on pillow making next week) and the chair is ready for the holidays.

I don’t know about you but I can’t wait for the holidays and this combination of red, fur and wicker gets me excited!
